Easy High-Protein TVP Chili Recipe (Hearty & Flavorful!)

This quick vegan chili is packed with protein, rich in flavor, and easy to make. TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) is a fantastic meat substitute that mimics ground beef and absorbs all the smoky and savory chili flavors.

Ingredients

TVP Chili Base

  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 1/2 cups TVP, 165g
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes, 400g each
  • 1 can black beans, 260g, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can red beans, 260g, drained and rinsed
  • 3/4 cup nutritional yeast

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.
  • Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Add the Base Ingredients

  • Pour in water, TVP, canned tomatoes, black beans, red beans, and nutritional yeast.
  • Stir well to combine.

Add the Spices & Simmer

  • Stir in chipotle chili powder, salt, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  • Cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • Keep covered on a low simmer, but if the chili gets too dry, you can add more water
